Europass and ATS CV Preparation
Europass and ATS CVs solve opposite problems. One is a rigid European standard a human reader expects to see; the other is a plain document a parsing system has to read without choking. Using the wrong one costs you the application.
When you need Europass
Europass is the European Union's standard CV format. European universities, Erasmus programmes, many EU scholarship schemes and a good number of European employers either require it or expect it, and some application portals will not accept anything else.
Its value is that it is predictable — a reader knows exactly where to find your qualifications, your language levels and your work history. Its cost is that it is unforgiving about incomplete sections, and language proficiency has to be stated on the CEFR scale rather than as "fluent" or "good".
When you need an ATS CV
Most employers screen applications through software before a person sees them. That software reads plain structure: standard section headings, real text rather than text inside images, no multi-column layouts that scramble reading order, no tables holding your job titles.
A visually designed CV that looks excellent as a PDF can arrive at the other end as unreadable fragments. An ATS CV is deliberately plain, and the design effort goes into wording and keyword coverage instead of layout.

Language levels, stated correctly
Europass requires CEFR levels (A1 to C2) for listening, reading, spoken interaction, spoken production and writing — five ratings per language, not one. Applicants routinely claim C1 across the board, which invites a request for the certificate that backs it up.
We map what you can actually evidence: an IELTS or TOEFL band converts to a defensible CEFR level, a Goethe or JLPT certificate states its own, and an honest B2 costs you nothing while an unsupported C2 costs you credibility.
