Once you have an unconditional offer and have paid the required fees, the university applies for your entry permit and then converts it into a student residence visa. The institution is your sponsor for the duration.

The practical consequence is that your university's international office drives the timeline, and their responsiveness matters more than any embassy queue. Choosing an institution with a functioning international office is a genuine consideration.

After arrival

• A medical fitness test at an approved centre, including screening for specified conditions.
• Emirates ID registration with biometrics — the card is your primary identity document.
• Health insurance, which is mandatory and usually arranged through the university.
• Visa stamping completed within the entry permit's validity period.

What to check before committing

Confirm the university is licensed by the relevant authority and that your specific programme is accredited — this matters if you intend the qualification to be recognised outside the UAE.

Many UAE campuses are branches of foreign universities, and the degree awarded is usually the parent institution's. Confirm which entity awards it, because that is what appears on your certificate.

Cost and working

Tuition is generally higher than in continental Europe, and there is no public subsidy for international students. Living costs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are substantial. Part-time work is permitted under conditions tied to your sponsorship, and those conditions are enforced.
