Applying through the official portal

Applications are made on Thailand's own e-Visa service, and the outcome arrives by email rather than as a sticker in the passport. There is no counter appointment for a standard tourist application, and there is no legitimate agent portal that bypasses it — anything presented as one should be treated with suspicion.

The portal is unforgiving about document quality. Scans that are cropped, low-resolution or in the wrong file format are a routine cause of delay, and each resubmission costs days.

Financial evidence

Thai missions look carefully at whether the applicant can genuinely fund the trip, and a balance that appeared days before the application invites questions. Statements covering a period with a stable, explicable history are worth considerably more than a single strong closing figure.

Where someone else is funding the travel, that relationship and their own financial position need to be evidenced rather than mentioned.

What travellers are asked for at the border

• The e-Visa approval, in printed or accessible form.
• Confirmed onward or return travel within the permitted stay.
• Accommodation details for the trip.
• Evidence of funds — immigration officers may ask, and the requirement is real even when it is not enforced on every passenger.
