Stipendium Hungaricum

A bilateral scholarship programme that covers tuition, provides a monthly stipend, and contributes to accommodation and medical insurance. Pakistan participates, and applications run through the designated national sending authority as well as the Hungarian portal.

It is competitive but not out of reach, and the application has a firm annual deadline with a required motivation letter and, for many programmes, an entrance examination or interview conducted online.

Self-funded study

• Tuition at Hungarian universities is modest compared with Western Europe, particularly outside Budapest.
• Medicine, dentistry and veterinary programmes taught in English are long-established and attract international students specifically.
• Living costs are among the lower ones in the EU.
• Hungary is in the Schengen area, so the permit carries the mobility that comes with it.

It is a residence permit, not a visa

Hungary issues a residence permit for study purposes rather than a study visa in the familiar sense. You apply at the Hungarian mission and, once approved, receive an entry visa to collect the permit after arrival.

The application needs the acceptance letter, proof of accommodation in Hungary, health insurance, and evidence of means, with the scholarship award letter serving as the means evidence for scholarship holders.

Timing

The scholarship deadline falls months before the intake and does not move. Self-funded applications are more flexible on admission but still face permit processing that should be started well before the semester begins.
