Australia Student Visa Support
Australia replaced the old Genuine Temporary Entrant test with a Genuine Student requirement, and the change was not cosmetic — the questions are more direct and the assessment less forgiving.
The Genuine Student requirement
Applicants answer targeted questions about their current circumstances, why they chose this course and provider, what they understand about living in Australia, and what the qualification does for them afterwards.
The answers are assessed as a whole against your history. A candidate enrolling in a course well below the level they have already completed, or one unconnected to their work, is asked to justify it — and "it was easier to get into" is the answer the assessment exists to catch.
CoE, OSHC and funds
- A Confirmation of Enrolment from a CRICOS-registered provider, issued after you accept the offer and pay the required deposit.
- Overseas Student Health Cover for the full period of the visa, arranged before you apply.
- Evidence of financial capacity covering tuition, travel and living costs at the published annual figure, which is revised periodically.
- English evidence at the level your provider and the visa require — these are two separate thresholds and the visa one can be higher.
Where Pakistani applicants get caught
Funds that cannot be traced to a plausible source, and sponsors whose declared income does not support the commitment, are the two recurring problems. Australia looks at where money came from, not only that it is present.
Course-hopping histories also attract attention — a pattern of enrolling and switching reads as a visa strategy rather than an education, and it has to be explained squarely if it is in your record.
After the visa
Student visa holders can work limited hours during term with a cap that has been adjusted more than once in recent years, and full time during scheduled breaks. Course progress and attendance conditions attach to the visa, and breaching them is a cancellation ground rather than a warning.
