Study applicants first complete a pre-enrolment step on the Italian universities' portal, naming the programme and institution. The embassy needs that record before it will process a study visa, so the appointment has to follow it, not precede it.
Getting this wrong forces a second booking. Admission timelines at Italian universities run on fixed intakes, and a missed slot can mean a missed intake.
Short-stay visits
Italy is a favourite for tourism and family visits, and demand rises sharply in spring and summer. A Schengen visit visa for Italy follows the main-destination rule: you apply to Italy only if you will spend most of the trip there, or enter there first when the time is split.
